Summary:

St Andrews is reputedly the home of golf and The Old Course is the oldest course in the town (reputedly dating back 600 years).
Often a venue for the British Open, The Old Course is one of the six publically owned courses managed by The St Andrews Links Trust.
The Old Course has evolved over time and so has not been designed by a single architect but some of the most famoust golf archticts have made their mark on the great course including Daw Anderson (1850s), Old Tom Morris (1860-1900) and Dr Alister Mackenzie (1930s).
The Old Course is renown for its particular physical feature (including the 112 bunkers !) plus its use of double greens (where the outward and inward holes are cut into the same putting surface). Some of these double greens are so large that they can present a putt of 100 yards!
The Old Course is also unusual in that it starts and finishes in the town, but its truely remarkable feature is that a course which has evolved over 600 years remains a true test of championship golf.
