Summary:

South Essex Golf Club, part of the Crown Golf group (32 golf courses), is situated just outside Brentwood in Essex (with easy access from M25) and it provides the ideal location for a relaxing game of golf in tranquil surroundings with many mature trees and water hazards.
South Essex Golf Club offers panoramic views over the Thames Valley and into Kent. The three 9 hole courses, Hawk, Heron and Vixen have been designed with spaciousness and nature in mind and have been blended into the established gently rolling landscape. Varying the mix of course can give some interesting combinations. Every hole is completely different offering its own individual beauty, interest and challenge. The 1st hole on the Heron offers a welcoming start to your round, a 577 yard par 5 can be reached in 2 shots, although beware because the green is protected by 3 greenside bunkers to trip you up. The 6th is a 369 yard par 4, which slopes steeply towards the green and can be attacked off the tee to leave you a short chip shot onto the green. The 8th is a favourite with many visitors to the course. A 190 yard par 3 with wind usually into your face provides a real test of your nerve. The 4th on the vixen course is a great attacking hole. A par 4 measuring 296 yards can be reached in one shot for the bigger hitters. Beware the water may catch you out off if you are left off the tee.
Visitors are always welcome. Contact club to make arrangements.

Facilities:

Changing rooms with showers; Club, buggy & trolley hire; Fully stocked professional shop; Practice facilities include 27 bay floodlit driving range, chipping area and putting green; Bar and full catering facilities.

an enjoyable course with lots of room if you don't always hit straight. some long holes which can be rewarding if playing well. enough hazards to ruin your card which should make you think before playing your shots. the weather was awful from start to finish i would have walked off after nine holes but my playing partner wanted to carry on. the course was waterlogged due to the conditions but we managed to finish hence the bad scores. worth a visit there are three nine hole courses to play.

It has been a long time since I played this course but I was pleasantly surprised how well the course had grown up - also liked the new ditches they have put in, which adds to the course! Not sure its worth £28 a round they charge (weekends) but thats me playing too much midweek golf for you. Worth a visit!

Played these loops on Tuesday 27th Jan, a bright sunny day. The course was wet but playable. Tees and fairways were good. The greens needed a cut/rolling but were still in a good condition. An interesting mix of holes when you play these two loops. Worth a visit.

Played The Heron/Hawk combination here on Saturday 11th October. Weather was very pleasant apart from the low sun making keeping your eye on the ball tricky. Holes were varied, fairways were generally wide and green big enough targets but a bit too firm making holding the greens tricky. All in all a nice friendly club with a course which should challenge all without being ridiculously difficult. Cost was £27 which was probably fair.
