Summary:

Brocket Hall offers two Championship length golf courses, The Melbourne and The Palmerston, both named after Prime Ministers who used to reside at Brocket Hall.

The Melbourne Course, designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, follows the natural undulations and contours of the 18th Century parkland surrounding Brocket Hall. The course provides and excellent and enjoyable challenge in stunning surroundings. The course crosses the Ornamental lake and the River Lea several times (four holes with carries over water).

The Palmerston Course, a longer, testing course designed by Donald Steel, wends its way through mature woodland. Rare Hornbeam, Scots and Corsican pine and 300 year oak trees create some of the most spectacular hazards you are ever likely to encounter on a golf course.

Together the Melbourne and the Palmerston are regared as two of the finest courses in England.

Visitors are welcome by prior arrangement.

I have had the pleasure of playing Brocket Hall a number of times in a previous life but played the 'The Melbourne' again a few weeks back and thought I should let you all know the course was in fantastic condition! More one for the mid to low handicapers but I dont think you will find a better setting than this anywhere else so close to London. Last thing to mention; the ferry on the 18th fairway that takes you across the lake/river to the green....a great way to end the round - unless of course you drop a few in the water like I did! As Pete says, expensive but if you get the chance to play with a member - bite their hand off!

Had the pleasure of visiting Brocket Hall and playing the Melbourne course for the first time and I was impressed. The setting is fantastic (several holes play along/across the massive ornamental lake in front of Broket Hall itself) and the course is well laid out and in great condition with wide fairways (although I still managed to miss some!) and superb greens all maintained in great order. In summary, it's one of the prettiest courses I've played in the UK, I thoroughly recommend it and if you get the offer to play as a guest of a member (£45) it's great value (less so as a visitor - £150 !).
