Mar Menor Golf Resort, Alicante, Spain

The Mar Menor Golf Resort opened in 2005 as the first of the Jack Nicholas designed 'Polaris World Golf Resorts' now dotted around Murcia.
 
Originally a Jack Nicklaus designed 9 hole layout Mar Menor Golf Course was expanded to 18 holes in 2008 and is now a 6150 meter, Par 72 parkland style resort course.
 
Perhaps due to the fact that it was expanded from a 9 to 18 hole layout the course is distinctly a course of two halves. The front 9 winds through the lovely resort properties whilst the back 9 is scattered with water obstacles and the Jack Nicklaus trademark numerous bunkers.  Although offering wide fairways and big greens the clever design requires accuracy in your shots to overcome the numerous changes in elevation plus avoid the lakes and strategically placed bunkers.  The use of multiple tees positions means that the course at Mar Menor Golf Resort can offer a real challenge to the best of golfers whilst not deterring the less skillful player.  This course comes well recommended.
