Summary:

Club Golf D'Aro, designed by D Ramon Espinosa and one of the oldest clubs on the Costa Brava, lies between the towns of Platja d’Aro and Santa Cristina d'Aro up in the Les Gavarres mountains at 300m above sea level.
The 18 hole, par 72 championship course is laid out over naturally undulating terrain and it incorporates more than a thousand olive trees together with pines and cork trees plus two huge artificial lakes to present a truely spectacular golf course.
In addition to the natural challenge of the course strategically placed bunkers and water hazards add additional interest.
Being set in the foothills of the mountains at 300 metres above sea level there are fantastic panoramic views from most of the course, the Les Gavarres mountains behind and the Costa Brava coast in front.
Visitors are welcome by prior arrangement. Contact club to make arrangements.

There are times when wandering through the foot hills of Northern Spain when the only thing on your mind is why is there a track here and who lives in that shack villa ponderosa finca cave. Welcome to the resort of Mas Nou or Golf D'aro. This is a course where brains are required and plenty of spirit not to say balls. Of all the courses our group play in Spain this is the one we all look forward to the most. Lets just put a perspective on this - if you are a wild hooker find a different course. This is built into the mountain side - don't ask how - it just is. I would also recommend a course planner! The first is a beckoning drive until you get to the top of the ridge and find you only needed a 5 wood. A big hit puts you in the ravine. Red stakes all round mean drop a new ball and play to a well contoured green. Second is a long par 4 where a central drive leaves a long iron into a raised and well guarded two tier green. Down hill putts are not recommended. Trudge up to the 3rd tee for a magnificent view over the resort of Club D'aro and yes the Germans did get there first. Better still remember a buggy is well worth the cost. A mid iron to the par 3 third but avoid a slice/push as the lake awaits. The 4th is one of the most picturesque holes I can remember with views from the hills over the town in the distance to Platja D'aro. Its a tricky par 5 with narrow fairway and the ever present red stakes electric fence and ravine. Not sure whether the fence is to discourage you or the local animals who love a bit of digging in the fairway. The 6th is index 1 and deserves it - driving line is tight to a sloping fairway with bunkers to catch you out. The approach to a raised green needs care and good club selection with bunkers guarding the short ball. 8th is another well designed par 5 around the edge of the hillside. Beware the wayward shot on the hills are luxury apartments and the locals must be used to ducking and keeping their San Miguels safe. The 9th is just about the driving line with a fairway that narrow to no more than 20 yards whilst giving great views over the red stakes and fencing. The back nine is as wonderful with long par threes over ravines water features and the ever present bunkers. God I love thiss course - each hole is a different challenge and is on my top 10 courses to play before you die. The 18th has the club house halfway up and the brave can hide behind the netting and watch your fellow strugglers. There is a welcome in the club house with good food and well priced drinks. The drive up to the course reminds me of the old hill climbs so beloved by the Austin Healey/Sprite set but is so much fun. If you've got the balls this is one I would recommend to anyone - just do it !!!!!!!!
