Vilamoura Laguna Golf Course, Algarve, Portugal

The Laguna Golf Course Vilamoura opened in 1990 and is part of the Oceanico Group of Vilamoura Golf Clubs.
 
The course was designed by the American Joseph Lee and is laid out on the low lying coastal terrain of the Vilamoura Golf Resort.
 
Some may recognise parts of this 6,100 metre, Par 72 course as being part of the original 27-hole Vilamoura III course, but Laguna is much more than a cut-down version of Villamoura III.
 
Laguna, with its many water hazards and few trees, is considerably different from the others at Vilamoura Golf and many of its holes have an almost links like feel. Although it has an open feel to it the numerous lakes act as a frequent hazard (coming into play on 11 of the 18 holes), plus there are nearly 80 bunkers to add challenge and, being on coastal land, the wind is often a factor in play blowing in off the sea and demanding to be taken into account.
 
Laguna Golf Club shares a large, welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium Golf Course.
