Summary:

Gay Hill is an old established Club which was first formed in 1913, moving to the present site in 1921. The 18 hole parkland course is laid out in a valley with gently sloping sides, through which runs a stream and its tributary. Subtle use is made of the sloping terrain and streams on several holes. It is not a particularly long Course, measuring just 6406 yards from the white tees and comprising of 10 par 4's, 4 par 3's and 4 par 5's, producing a par for the Course of 72, the SSS being also 72. However, the tree lined fairways and proximity of the streams on several holes call for accurate golf shots, making this a Course which rewards the low handicap player, but which the higher handicap player, by strategic use of his shots, can also enjoy. The Clubhouse, built in 1964, offers all the facilities you would normally expect plus two full size snooker tables and a television area. Gay Hill is renown for its hospitality to visitors.

I have played Gay Hill many times and seen a marked improvement in the course over the last 8 months with the greens returning to the quality they were always known. Course strategy is easy "miss the trees" which tightly line the fairways and mean that you have to plot your way around rather than hit it as far as you can. The bar on the evening can be great fun especially if there is a football match on. I look forward to returning again and would strongly suggest it should be played.
