Summary:

The new course which incorporates the 3 new holes designed by Mr David Jones in 1998 has created a trully challenging test of golf, particularly on a windy day. The course hugs the coastline, with no fewer than 8 holes where the Irish Sea coastline comes into play. The Irish Sea is visible from all 18 holes and on a clear day it is possible to see across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man.

Facilities:

Clubhouse with bar, restaurant, lounge and changing rooms. A fully stocked pro shop with club, trolley and buggy hire.

I recently had the pleasure of playing Ardglass Golf Club in +14 sunny conditions. My host was a most affable and endearing gentelman named Mr. Kevin Carville, Treasurer of Ardglass. With borrowed clubs we set out and the initiaton to the course is dramatic. Hugging the cliff edge from the first tee shot this spectacular lay out has a view of the sea from every single hole, awesome! The signature hole the Par 3 No 2, slightly uphill, over a very daunting gorge that juts into the cliffs from the sea to a blind pin position is fearsome to say the least. The course combines a number of sea edge holes with some flatter holes on the inside loop of the course. Well positioned bunkers, stone walls and of course mother nature, the sea, are all very challenging aspects of a day here. I dont know if it was "be nice to a Canadian" day but I have rarely felt more welcome at any golf course I have played. The pro was friendly to a fault, his assistant loaned me his clubs, the bar steward secured my belongings and the manageress herself brought out drinks and fresh muffins. Some golfers from the area suggest that Ardglass GC lives off the crumbs of the world renowned Royal County Down, 20 miles away. You need not feel the least bit short changed if you miss RCG on a trip to Northern Ireland simply reward yourself by going to straight to Ardglass! Sincerely, Bill
