Western Algarve for fantastic Golf Holidays and Golf Breaks

When people talk of ‘Golfing Holidays Algarve’ they are usually referring to the huge purpose built golf holiday resorts of the Central Algarve like Quinta do Lago, Vale do lobo and Vilamoura.

But the Western Algarve, a mere 40 minutes from Faro Airport, offers a fantastic alternative with excellent resorts offering superb golfing holidays, fantastic beaches and secluded coves, numerous bars, restaurants, every form of leisure activity, still working fishing villages and historic towns such Lagos, Alvor and Portimao.

The golf…

Golfing holidays began here in the 1960s with Sir Henry Cotton’s development of Penina Golf Resort and development has continued ever since with the addition of further golfing holidays resorts such as Boavista (on the coast between Lagos and Praia da Luz), Parque da Floresta (between Praia da Luz and Vila do Bispo), Vale da Pinta, Quinta do Gramacho (next to each other at Lagoa) and the world class Amendoeira Golf Resort (in the foot hills of the Monchique Mountains behind Silves), with luxury golf villas, fantastic clubhouse and two golf courses, one designed by Sir Nick Faldo and the other by Christy Connor Jnr.

Other things to do…

Aside from fantastic golf holiday resorts there is everything else that you would expect of ‘Algarve Golfing Holidays’ - fantastic beaches, holiday beach resorts like Praia da Luz, numerous bars, restaurants,  mountains, off course leisure activities and a range of golf accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, from luxury golf villas and golf apartments on the golf holiday resorts to accommodation in the many seaside towns and villages.

In summary…

whilst offering the quality and range of holiday experience you expect from Algarve Golfing Holidays, the Western Algarve does so in a more laid back environment than its next door neighbour with the resorts more dispersed, the courses quieter (and cheaper) and with, perhaps, a better balance between holiday resort, holiday makers and local working people.

As a consequence this area offers an excellent alternative to the perhaps more ‘full-on’ holiday experience and the often overcrowded golf courses of the Central Algarve
